School guide
Skipton Girls’ High School
A revised introduction to selection testing and the school-place application for this girls’ grammar school in Skipton.
Two linked but separate steps
Skipton Girls’ High School arranges and runs its own selection testing. Parents and carers must contact or register with the school for the test, then make a separate application for a school place through their local authority.
Registering for or passing a selection test is not the same as receiving an offer of a place. The published admissions and oversubscription rules still apply.
Use the current school guidance
Test formats, dates, qualifying standards and admissions policies can change. The older version of this guide described a three-paper GL Assessment format; families should not rely on that historic information.
Check the school’s own website and North Yorkshire Council’s selective-schools guidance for the application year that applies to your child.
Preparing without unnecessary pressure
A balanced preparation plan strengthens English and maths foundations, reading habits, problem solving and confidence. Familiarisation should come after those core skills, not replace them.
