School guide
The Crossley Heath School
An updated introduction to the Year 7 admissions route for this mixed selective school in Halifax.
Year 7 admissions
Crossley Heath admits 180 pupils into Year 7. Entry is selective, and families must register for the Halifax Grammar Schools admissions test as well as complete their local-authority secondary-school application.
The joint Halifax Grammar Schools test
Crossley Heath and North Halifax Grammar School use a joint registration and testing process, so a child takes one set of tests when applying to one or both schools.
For September 2027 entry, the schools describe a Future Stories Community Enterprise entrance test covering application of English and maths knowledge, plus creative writing. The assessment includes multiple-choice and written responses and is based on Key Stage 2 content taught by the end of Year 5.
Important application point
Registering for the test is not the same as applying for a school place. Parents and carers must also name the school on the Common Application Form by the relevant local-authority deadline.
A qualifying or ranked test result does not itself guarantee an offer. Places are allocated under the school’s published admissions policy.
How tuition can help
Preparation should strengthen the underlying English, maths, reading, reasoning and problem-solving skills a child uses in school. It should also build familiarity with working independently under time pressure without making the process feel overwhelming.
